Beach, Trash, and Teamwork: Batubelig Cleanup Highlights

Ucik, 4ocean Jembrana Content Correspondent

The 4ocean Denpasar crew hit the sand once again—this time at Batubelig Beach, where a familiar scene of plastic waste greeted them. Trash was wedged between large rocks and spread across the dunes, making cleanup efforts physically demanding from the moment they stepped onto the shore.

Walking through soft, heavy sand under the heat, the team focused their energy on spots where the trash had collected in alarming amounts. These piles—likely formed by habitual dumping and high tides—contained mostly plastic bottles, snack wrappers, and tangled debris. The most notable find of the day: a massive abandoned fishing net lying along the shoreline. Without hesitation, the crew sprang into action to remove it before it could drift back into the ocean.

“If you enjoy fishing or catching fish, please don’t leave your fishing gear like this net behind. It can seriously harm the environment and disturb marine life.”

Despite the beautiful beach views, Batubelig presented real hazards: sharp nails hidden in the sand posed safety risks, and the dense sand made every step exhausting. Still, the 4ocean team powered through—each cleanup a reminder of what’s at stake and why their mission matters.

Impact at a Glance

  • Total plastic waste collected: 820.10 lbs
  • Key items found: Plastic bottles, wrappers, and a large abandoned fishing net
  • Environmental hazard: Sharp objects buried in sand and fishing gear left behind

“It seems like the damage isn’t caused by nature but by people who aren’t disciplined and don’t care about the environment. Let’s protect our planet for the next generation. Please!”

Batubelig may be a postcard-worthy location, but under the surface lies the story of how human carelessness disrupts even the most scenic places. Fortunately, thanks to the 4ocean Denpasar crew, the beach is one step closer to being restored—for both people and marine life alike.
