Knockaround Supports 4ocean’s Cleanup in Java’s Tegaldlimo Canal

Dika, 4ocean Jembrana Content Correspondent

In the heart of Tegaldlimo, a narrow canal snakes through tightly packed homes, carrying both life and litter downstream. Every rainfall brings a familiar sight: plastic bottles, food wrappers, and household waste floating on the surface, slowly making their way toward the sea.

Thanks to the support of Knockaround, the 4ocean Java Riverboom team set out to intercept this pollution before it could travel any farther. Their mission: clean the canal, clear the boom nets, and restore a small piece of balance to the community’s waterway.

Under the blazing sun, Captain Ari Surya Prayoga and his crew, Deni Pratama and Indra Dwi Pramono; prepared their gear: gloves, waders, sacks, and protective glasses. The air hung heavy with the scent of decomposing waste, but the team’s focus never wavered. They knew that every pound of trash removed from the canal meant less pollution in Java’s rivers and oceans.

Within hours, their nets filled with the familiar mix of debris: plastic bags, foam, sandals, and even remnants of food waste caught in the current. By the end of the day, the crew had cleared 235 pounds of waste, a testament to what consistent effort can achieve in even the most challenging environments.

“This work isn’t just about removing trash,” said one crew member. “It’s about protecting all forms of life that depend on clean water. Through our actions, we hope people see that proper waste management starts at home.”

Though the cleanup ran smoothly, the sight of new waste flowing in from upstream reminded the team that awareness remains the real challenge. Many residents still dispose of garbage directly into the canal, unaware of the long-term effects on their own environment.

But small steps, taken together, add up to real impact. With Knockaround’s partnership, the 4ocean Java team is not only keeping river systems clean but also sparking conversations within local communities about change, responsibility, and hope.

Every cleanup is a chance to turn awareness into action; and this one, made possible through Knockaround’s support, continues to ripple outward.
