Plastic Waste Overload at Nyanyi Beach

Ucik, 4ocean Jembrana Content Correspondent

Nyanyi Beach is well-known for its sweeping sunsets, but today, the golden skies contrasted sharply with the reality on the sand. The 4ocean Denpasar crew arrived to find the beach marred by plastic bottles, cups, fishnets, and wrappers—waste left behind by visitors who clearly enjoyed the scenery but neglected their responsibility.

The team got to work, filling sack after sack with debris. But when they went to stack the bags on a wooden support beam before hauling them away, the weight of the plastic was so immense that the wood snapped right in half. No one was hurt—but it was a stark reminder: even plastic waste, seemingly light and harmless in small amounts, becomes a burden when it piles up.

“Dispose of your trash properly to avoid polluting and damaging the natural environment.” – Agung Wawan

Transporting the waste up to the truck wasn’t easy. The access point was far, and the team had to climb a steep staircase, hauling heavy sacks the whole way. But true to form, they didn’t stop. They replaced the broken support, rallied together, and finished the job with grit and good spirits.

Impact at a Glance

  • Total plastic waste collected: 960.15 lbs
  • Key items found: Plastic bottles, fishnets, and assorted wrappers
  • Notable moment: A wooden support snapped under the weight of the plastic—showing just how much had accumulated

“It seems the damage isn’t caused by nature, but by humans who lack discipline and disregard the environment. Let’s protect the environment for future generations. Please — don’t ignore this!”

Nyanyi Beach may be a postcard-perfect place to watch the sun dip into the sea—but beneath the beauty, pollution persists. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the 4ocean crew, the beach is once again safer for both marine life and the people who come to enjoy it.
