Satelit Beach Cleanup: Restoring a Fishermen’s Wharf from Plastic Pollution
Dika, 4ocean Bali Content Correspondent
Satelit Beach isn’t just a stretch of sand—it’s the heart of Muncar’s fishing industry. Every day, fishermen launch their boats here, bringing in fresh catches that sustain the local economy. But the beach itself tells another story: a battle against plastic waste that washes ashore with the tides.
On January 18, the 4ocean Java team, led by Captain Ari Surya Prayoga (Yoga), set out on a mission to clear the coastline. Armed with sacks and unwavering determination, they worked methodically, separating plastics from non-plastics before hauling their collection away for proper disposal. It was a race against nature—rising tides threatened to reclaim the waste before the team could.

By the end of the day, they had removed nearly 1,669 pounds of plastic waste. But beyond the numbers, this cleanup was about more than just removing debris. It was about reclaiming the shoreline for the community, protecting the marine ecosystem, and proving that small, consistent efforts can drive real change.

For team member Krisna Iza Rabindra, the experience was a powerful reminder of why he does this work:
"Experiencing the ever-changing conditions of the beach every day has been a unique experience for me during cleanups. My hope is that 4ocean continues to grow and expand to every city in Indonesia."
The fight to keep Satelit Beach clean is ongoing, but as long as the tides bring waste ashore, the 4ocean Java team will be there to push back.
