DESCRIPTION

We introduced our limited edition Earth Day Bracelets to highlight the ways plastic contributes to climate change. For every Earth Day 2-Pound Pack sold this month, our professional, full-time captains and crews will pull two pounds of trash from the ocean, rivers, and coastlines. To help protect and restore blue-carbon ecosystems that sequester excess atmospheric carbon, 4ocean will also donate $2 to SeaTrees, our Nonprofit Partner of the Month, for every Earth Day 2-Pound Pack sold this month.

You’ll notice that these bracelets have a second charm, which is something we’ll be adding to all limited edition bracelets going forward. This way, it’ll be easier to remember the cause your bracelet supports and share our mission with anyone who asks about your bracelet.

This month’s globe charm represents the theme of Earth Day 2021, Restore Our Earth, and symbolizes your commitment to environmental conservation. The blue, green, and white cords represent the marine, coastal, and terrestrial environments that are threatened by plastic pollution and climate change. And, as always, the “4o” charm identifies you as a member of the clean ocean movement and symbolizes the pound of trash you pull when you purchase this bracelet.

PRODUCT STORY

Earth Day 2021: Restore Our Earth

Aerial view of mangrove forest in Gambia, Africa

The banks of the Green River, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

He that plants trees loves others beside himself.

Thomas Fuller

17th century scholar and author

From cradle to grave, at literally every stage of its lifecycle, plastic emits greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. From the extraction and transport of fossil fuels that serve as the primary feedstocks for plastic, to refining and manufacturing, to waste management or environmental exposure, plastic is one of the world’s most significant and rapidly growing sources of industrial greenhouse gas emissions.

Since the first celebration in 1970, Earth Day has become a day of global action and awareness on behalf of the environment. Each year has a different theme and this year’s is “Restore Our Earth.”

To help our planet heal from the impact of plastic pollution and other man-made threats, we must reject the notion that mitigation and adaptation are the only options we have to combat the impacts of climate change. Instead, we must embrace environmental protection and restoration as a pragmatic and necessary solution.

Hand assembled by an artisan in Bali, Indonesia

Purchasing a 4ocean bracelet does more than clean the ocean. It also creates sustainable, living-wage jobs.

As soon as our beads, cords, and charms reach our main facility in Denpasar, Bali, a crew loads up our van and motorbikes to distribute these components to artisans in remote villages scattered across the island.

Women comprise 80 percent of this workforce. In Bali, women tend to assume the role of primary caretakers for their families, which means their job opportunities are limited. Because they’re able to hand assemble our bracelets in their homes and village centers, more women are able to join the workforce while continuing to care for their families.
