CLOSED-LOOP PROGRAM
We’re currently developing a circular end-of-life plan for every 4ocean product. Our aim is to eliminate waste at the end of our product lifecycle by taking back 4ocean products that our customers no longer use so they can be properly recycled or transformed into new products. Once you’re done with your 4ocean product, please reach out to our customer service team to receive a prepaid shipping label.
The 4ocean Closed-Loop Program is only available in the U.S. for now, but we plan to expand in the future.

PRODUCT STORY
The ice lover from Greenland

Harp seal pup, Arctic

Melting sea ice, Disko Bay, Greenland
The scientific name for harp seals is Pagophilus groenlandicus, which literally translates as “the ice lover from Greenland” — an apt name for seals that rely on pack ice in the North Atlantic and Arctic to survive. Highly migratory, these seals follow Arctic sea ice as it expands and contracts throughout the year.
The greatest threat to harp seals is climate change, which is causing the sea ice they rely on to disappear. Pups can drown in melting ice floes or be crushed by chunks of falling ice. In 2007, more than 75% of pups in Canada perished because of poor ice conditions. In 2010, almost none survived.
From cradle to grave, plastic emits greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. Entanglement in plastic fishing gear like gillnets and trawls can lead to severe injuries and death. Commercial hunting, vessel strikes, chemical contaminants, oil spills, and energy exploration are all significant threats to these adorable bundles of blubber.
Hand assembled by an artisan in Bali, Indonesia
Purchasing a 4ocean bracelet does more than clean the ocean. It also creates sustainable, living-wage jobs.
As soon as our beads, cords, and charms reach our main facility in Denpasar, Bali, a crew loads up our van and motorbikes to distribute these components to artisans in remote villages scattered across the island.
Women comprise 80 percent of this workforce. In Bali, women tend to assume the role of primary caretakers for their families, which means their job opportunities are limited. Because they’re able to hand assemble our bracelets in their homes and village centers, more women are able to join the workforce while continuing to care for their families.
