CLOSED-LOOP PROGRAM
We’re currently developing a circular end-of-life plan for every 4ocean product. Our aim is to eliminate waste at the end of our product lifecycle by taking back 4ocean products that our customers no longer use so they can be properly recycled or transformed into new products. Once you’re done with your 4ocean product, please reach out to our customer service team to receive a prepaid shipping label.
The 4ocean Closed-Loop Program is only available in the U.S. for now, but we plan to expand in the future.

PRODUCT STORY
Recycling plastic isn’t as simple as
we were led to believe

Plastic waste at the Thilafushi waste disposal site, Maldives

Recycling operations at Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County, Florida
Whether plastic is recyclable boils down to two things: the market and your local government. Recyclers and manufacturers are willing to pay for in-demand plastics. City governments that have waste management infrastructure generally accept these high-value plastics because they can profit from them. PET (#1 plastic) and HDPE (#2 plastic) are so widely and easily recycled in curbside programs because they have the highest manufacturer demand and are the most profitable to recycle
Plastic with little or no demand will enter a landfill or an incinerator — no matter what bin you put it in — simply because there’s no money to be made by recycling it. Some plastics, like expanded polystyrene (AKA: Styrofoam), are impossible to recycle because they can’t be melted
For many manufacturers, purchasing virgin plastic is substantially cheaper than recycling plastic, even though the environmental cost is exponentially higher
4ocean hats are one of our most commonly requested products, but all of the hats currently on the market are made using virgin plastic and that doesn’t fit our mission. While we wanted to introduce hats our customers would love, we refused to do it at the ocean’s expense
We took the time to develop a totally sustainable supply chain so we could manufacture hats made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic. We considered every detail, down to the stitch, and went the extra mile to use recycled plastic components
4ocean hats are like no other hat on the market because they’re sustainably made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic and 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton, which means you’ll look good and feel even better wearing them
We built a hat that fits our mission
When it came time to introduce 4ocean hats, we realized we had an opportunity to use recycled plastic in a whole new way. That’s because almost every hat on the market is made with virgin plastic. And that just doesn’t fit our mission.
We considered every detail, down to the stitch, and built a new supply chain to ensure that every component is made from recycled and sustainable materials. Every 4ocean hat is made from 100% recycled plastic and 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton.
With hats as stylish as they are sustainable, you can proudly pull pounds, rep the clean ocean movement, and help us raise awareness about the ocean plastic crisis everywhere you go.
