CLOSED-LOOP PROGRAM

We’re currently developing a circular end-of-life plan for every 4ocean product. Our aim is to eliminate waste at the end of our product lifecycle by taking back 4ocean products that our customers no longer use so they can be properly recycled or transformed into new products. Once you’re done with your 4ocean product, please reach out to our customer service team to receive a prepaid shipping label.

The 4ocean Closed-Loop Program is only available in the U.S. for now, but we plan to expand in the future.

Plastic in paradise

Galapagos sea lion pup, Mosquera Island, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

Galapagos sea lion pups playing with plastic sheet, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

The Galapagos Islands are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and protected marine reserve, yet the endangered Galapagos sea lion is facing extinction as a result of human activity and climate change. If we can’t conserve marine life under these conditions, how can we expect to conserve it globally?

4OCEAN

The Galapagos Islands are best known for inspiring Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. Thousands of species call this volcanic archipelago home and many, like the endangered Galapagos sea lion, can’t be found anywhere else in the world.

The Galapagos is now facing a threat that even evolution may not be able to overcome: the ocean plastic crisis. Galapagos sea lion habitats are almost completely off limits to humans but are still awash in plastic waste. One of the biggest risks these adorable marine mammals encounter is entanglement in discarded fishing gear and other plastic waste.

The plight of Galapagos sea lions shows us that plastic pollution anywhere is a problem everywhere. By cleaning up locally and swapping single-use plastic for sustainable alternatives, we can change our relationship with plastic and protect all animals from the threat of the ocean plastic crisis.

Purchasing a 4ocean bracelet does more than clean the ocean. It also creates sustainable, living-wage jobs.

As soon as our beads, cords, and charms reach our main facility in Denpasar, Bali, a crew loads up our van and motorbikes to distribute these components to artisans in remote villages scattered across the island.

Women comprise 80 percent of this workforce. In Bali, women tend to assume the role of primary caretakers for their families, which means their job opportunities are limited. Because they’re able to hand assemble our bracelets in their homes and village centers, more women are able to join the workforce while continuing to care for their families.
