Fight for your right to party without plastic
It’s spring break season! And we all know what that means…
A whole lot more of this
Our crews have cleaned up after more than one spring break celebration. And, of course, we always find the usual culprits: empty bottles of alcohol and cans of beer; cigarette butts and vape pods; forgotten and broken beach chairs, umbrellas, and beach toys; even lost flip-flops and other garments.
But the biggest party foul always comes from single-use plastics. Every year, we recover absolutely massive quantities of disposable plastic cups, bottles and caps, straws, utensils, food wrappers, and takeout containers.
Left behind, all this trash becomes a direct threat to wildlife and contributes to the degradation of critical marine habitats.
Tourists expect clean beaches and spring breakers are no different, but our beaches won’t stay clean if we don’t do our part to keep them that way. (The same goes for our lakes and other natural areas!)
While some cities have gone as far as banning alcohol sales during spring break to discourage large and litter-filled parties, we think a little bit of awareness and planning can prevent most of the plastic pollution we see during this season.
Here’s what you can do to keep our beaches clean this spring break!
Ditch disposable cups
The only thing worse than a warm beer is the non-recyclable plastic cup you sip out of. Drink your way to a cleaner ocean with our reusable stainless steel cups! Stack and pack ‘em in a reusable bag and toss ‘em in the dishwasher when you get back for max convenience.
Skip the straw
Straws are to recycling equipment what gum is to hair. In short, they can’t be recycled. And because they’re so lightweight, the smallest wind breeze can send them flying off into the great blue yonder. The 4ocean x FinalStraw is the last reusable straw you will ever need.
Bring your own bottle
Alcohol and sunshine are a dangerous combination and you have to stay hydrated while you're out. Instead of packing single-use plastic bottles, BYOB (bring your own bottle) and a portable water cooler for ice-cold refreshment that lasts all day long—and well into the night.
Don’t pass it up, pick it up
Unfortunately, not everyone on the beach is going to be as ocean-minded as you and your friends. So pack a few extra cleanup bags and pick up any trash you see—even if it’s not yours. Maybe you’ll inspire other spring breakers to join you in the clean ocean move.
