Pull a pound for the Everglades

DESCRIPTION

The Everglades are a vast expanse of subtropical wetlands located in our home state of Florida. This biome isn’t replicated anywhere else on Earth, which is why it’s a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, just like the Great Barrier Reef, Grand Canyon, and Serengeti Plains. While its rich cultural and natural history spans centuries, half of the Everglades have been lost to urban development and other threats over the last few decades.

When you purchase our Everglades Braided Bracelet, you’ll pull one pound of trash from the oceans, rivers, and coastlines while helping raise awareness about the threats these historic wetlands currently face.

PRODUCT STORY

Half of the Everglades has already vanished

Aerial view of the Everglades, Florida

The Everglades is a test. If we pass it, we may get to keep the planet.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas

Author and activist; known as the “Mother of the Everglades”

The Everglades has a rich cultural and natural history that spans centuries. It’s listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, UNESCO International Biosphere Reserve, and Ramsar Wetland of International Importance.

This vast expanse of subtropical wetlands is made up of eight different ecosystems and is a valuable source of drinking water for millions of Floridians. Despite its significance, the Everglades has been dredged, diked, and drained to make way for agricultural and urban development, which has severely impacted water quality throughout the state of Florida.

In addition to development, microplastic pollution, nutrient pollution, invasive species, and sea level rise are having a cumulative effect that threatens the future of this historic ecosystem.

Purchasing a 4ocean bracelet does more than clean the ocean. It also creates sustainable, living-wage jobs.

As soon as our beads, cords, and charms reach our main facility in Denpasar, Bali, a crew loads up our van and motorbikes to distribute these components to artisans in remote villages scattered across the island.

Women comprise 80 percent of this workforce. In Bali, women tend to assume the role of primary caretakers for their families, which means their job opportunities are limited. Because they’re able to hand assemble our bracelets in their homes and village centers, more women are able to join the workforce while continuing to care for their families.
