PRODUCT STORY
No natural predators. Still endangered.

Manatee mother and calf, Crystal River, Florida

West Indian manatee swallows garbage with fishing hooks, Florida
Manatees are gentle and passive mammals who use their mouths and flippers to explore their environment. Anything that gets stuck in seagrass beds or other vegetation, including plastic bags, balloons, and fish hooks, can be ingested. Recreational monofilament fishing line is a particular hazard. Manatees’ intestines are over 100 feet long and plastic can easily get stuck in their digestive tract.
Manatees are commonly entangled in anchor lines, crab trap buoys, and abandoned fishing gear. Entangled manatees drown if they get stuck below the surface. Even if they have access to air or are rescued in time, it’s still possible for them to sustain life-threatening injuries. Some manatees have even lost flippers after becoming entangled.
It’s up to us to help protect these peaceful, lovable animals and aid the recovery of their population and habitats around the world.
From Bali, with love.
Hand assembled by an artisan in Bali, Indonesia.
Purchasing a 4ocean bracelet does more than clean the ocean. It also creates sustainable, living-wage jobs.
As soon as our beads, cords, and charms reach our main facility in Denpasar, Bali, a crew loads up our van and motorbikes to distribute these components to artisans in remote villages scattered across the island.
Women comprise 80 percent of this workforce. In Bali, women tend to assume the role of primary caretakers for their families, which means their job opportunities are limited. Because they’re able to hand assemble our bracelets in their homes and village centers, more women are able to join the workforce while continuing to care for their families.
