Restoring the Flow at Maras River Supported by Seaside Marine Construction

When reports came in about a waterway blocked by plastic waste in Maras Village, the Riverboom Team moved quickly. Supported by partner Seaside Marine Construction, the mission was clear from the start: restore the river’s flow and prevent further environmental damage before it could escalate.
Preparation was swift but thorough. Personal protective equipment, sacks, and cleanup tools were checked and secured. Within minutes, the team was on the move, traveling roughly 15 kilometers to reach the site in Maras Village, Rogojampi District.
Upon arrival, a quick on-site briefing ensured everyone understood their role. Then the work began.
The crew entered the drainage area and immediately started removing waste piece by piece. Plastic bags, bottles, foam, and other debris had formed a dense barrier, preventing the natural flow of water. Working in tight conditions near an active roadside, the team maintained focus and coordination, carefully extracting the waste and filling sack after sack.
What had been a stagnant, clogged waterway slowly began to recover.
Within a short time, the impact was visible. As the blockage cleared, water began to move freely again, restoring the natural flow of the channel. The crew gathered dozens of filled sacks and transported them to a designated area for weighing. In total, 450.4 pounds of plastic waste were removed from the site, all of it properly secured and sent back to the 4ocean Java base for processing.
The transformation was immediate, but the meaning behind it ran deeper.
“We realize that the waste problem cannot be solved alone,” shared crew member Thomas Adi Priyanto. “But through actions like today, we hope to create a positive impact and inspire others. Fatigue is inevitable, but the fulfillment we feel when seeing the water flow return to normal is far greater.”
The cleanup was not without its challenges. The location’s proximity to a busy road required extra caution during waste evacuation. Every movement had to be calculated to ensure both safety and efficiency. Still, the team adapted quickly, relying on communication and teamwork to get the job done.
This operation serves as a reminder that waste does not disappear. When it is carelessly discarded, it often returns in more dangerous forms such as blocked waterways, flooding, and environmental damage. What happened in Maras Village is not an isolated case, but part of a larger, ongoing issue.
Through consistent action and strong collaboration, 4ocean Java continues to address these challenges head-on. Each cleanup is more than just removing trash. It is about restoring balance, protecting communities, and reinforcing a simple truth: clean waterways are essential to healthy ecosystems.
And sometimes, all it takes to bring a river back to life is a team willing to step in and do the work.
