4ocean Java and Cleanr Expand Cleanup at Tanjungan Wongsorejo Beach

On January 8, 2026, the 4ocean Java Beach Team, supported by Cleanr, traveled from their base in Banyuwangi to Tanjungan Wongsorejo Beach to tackle a stretch of coastline heavily impacted by plastic and other waste. The team departed at 5:30 in the morning to arrive before the day grew too hot, sharing a pickup truck and filling the ride with conversation and laughter as they anticipated the work ahead. Upon arrival, the natural beauty of the beach was immediately apparent, yet in several areas, trash had accumulated in large amounts, reminding the team why these cleanups are so crucial.
After a quick briefing led by Captain Oval Bayu Murti, the crew set off along the long shoreline, combing the sand and collecting debris. Tanjungan Beach is extensive, and the waste was not concentrated in one spot but spread across multiple zones, requiring careful attention and steady pacing. By midday, dozens of filled trash sacks were ready to be consolidated at a designated collection point. The crew then weighed the collected waste before loading it onto the pickup truck for transport back to the 4ocean Java base.
The debris collected included plastic bags, beverage bottles, food packaging foam, and other plastic materials, as well as non-plastic items such as cans, clothing, shoes, fabric, and diapers. In total, the team recovered 564.8 pounds of waste across forty-six sacks. Despite the long distance traveled and the extensive area covered, the team worked efficiently, demonstrating strong coordination and dedication to keeping the beach and surrounding ecosystem clean.
Raka Bahtyan reflected on the work, saying, “The long distance is not a challenge for us. The real issue is the environmental damage caused by waste pollution. That is why I am proud to be part of 4ocean. We will continue carrying out cleanup actions to protect the natural beauty of our environment.” The main challenge of the day was transporting all the filled sacks to the designated weighing area, which required teamwork and persistence.
Through this expanded cleanup, the 4ocean Java team shows that caring for coastal areas is not about one quick effort but about consistent commitment. Supported by Cleanr, this operation reflects the importance of routine action to protect the beach, its marine life, and the community that relies on this stretch of coastline. By continuing these efforts, the team hopes to inspire everyone to reduce single-use plastics and prevent littering, ensuring Tanjungan Beach can remain a clean and healthy space for both nature and future generations.
