Sea-Doo Supports 4ocean Java Beach Team Cleanup at Lampon Beach

Dika, 4ocean Jembrana Content Correspondent

With support from partner Sea-Doo, the 4ocean Java Beach Team carried out a routine cleanup at Lampon Beach, continuing weekly efforts to protect one of Banyuwangi’s most scenic coastlines from plastic waste pollution. Lampon Beach sits near a river mouth, making it especially vulnerable to debris carried downstream and pushed ashore by tides and strong winds. Despite unstable weather conditions, the team remained committed to restoring the shoreline and preventing waste from reentering the ocean.

Before departing, Team Captain Raka Bahtyan briefed the crew and ensured all cleanup equipment was prepared in anticipation of challenging field conditions. Due to strong winds and the possibility of rain, the team traveled by vehicle for the 44 kilometer journey from the 4ocean Java base, arriving at the site under overcast skies.

Upon arrival, the crew immediately began collecting plastic and mixed waste scattered across the shoreline. Windy conditions made visibility difficult at times, as sand was carried through the air, but the team worked steadily for several hours. Dozens of sacks were filled with collected waste, then gathered in a designated area to be barcoded for location tracking, weighed, and transported back to the 4ocean Java base using a pickup truck.

The cleanup removed a wide range of waste from the area, including food packaging, plastic bags, styrofoam, sandals, shoes, glass bottles, plastic bottles, bicycle tires, organic waste, and even used infusion bottles, which pose serious environmental and health risks if left along the coast or carried back into the sea. In total, the team collected 2,208.1 pounds of waste across 45 sacks, made up of 1,154.1 pounds of plastic waste (30 sacks), 502.8 pounds of mixed waste (8 sacks), and 551.2 pounds of non-plastic waste (7 sacks).

The visible difference along the shoreline highlighted how routine, consistent action can significantly reduce pollution in high impact coastal zones.

Dion Fico Satnas, a member of the cleanup team, reflected on the importance of continued action: “Lampon Beach is one of the coastal areas affected by plastic pollution carried through river flows. This waste originates upstream, is transported by currents into the ocean, and eventually washed ashore by waves. My team and I are very proud to be part of the 4ocean Java team, because with commitment and consistency, we can create real change a clean beach and a beautiful natural environment.”

Weather conditions presented the main challenge during the cleanup. Strong winds reduced visibility and made it more difficult for the crew to work efficiently, but teamwork and preparation allowed the operation to continue safely and effectively.

Lampon Beach is one of Banyuwangi’s most popular tourist destinations, yet its natural beauty is increasingly threatened by the constant arrival of organic and inorganic waste. Its proximity to a river means debris frequently accumulates along the shore, especially during high tides and strong sea winds.

Through routine cleanups supported by partners like Sea-Doo, the 4ocean Java Beach Team remains committed to protecting coastal ecosystems while raising awareness within surrounding communities. These efforts help safeguard marine life, preserve natural beauty, and ensure that Lampon Beach can continue to be enjoyed by future generations.
