Tanjungan Beach Cleanup Supported by ID&C Band

Dika, 4ocean Jembrana Content Correspondent

With support from ID&C Band, the 4ocean Java Beach Team carried out a cleanup at Tanjungan Beach, a newly identified location for future beach cleanup efforts. Situated approximately 57 kilometers from the 4ocean Java base, the team traveled for over an hour to reach the site, driven by a shared commitment to protecting coastal environments before waste accumulation becomes more severe.

Before departing, the team held a short briefing to ensure all equipment was prepared, including sacks, ropes, cutters, iron claws, and personal protective gear. With everything ready, the team set off toward Tanjungan Beach with strong motivation and focus.

Upon arrival, the crew was welcomed by clear seawater and fine sand that highlighted the beach’s natural beauty. However, closer inspection revealed plastic and non-plastic waste scattered along the shoreline. Plastic bottles, foam, wooden debris, and household waste disrupted the coastal environment. While the volume of waste was not yet overwhelming, it posed a serious risk to marine life and the long-term health of the beach if left unaddressed.

Seeing these conditions, the team immediately began the cleanup. Working area by area, they collected and sorted waste by type, placing it into sacks to ensure proper handling. Through strong coordination and steady effort, the shoreline gradually became cleaner, revealing the beach’s natural character once again.

By the end of the cleanup, the team had collected 39 sacks of waste weighing a total of 710.3 pounds. This included 556.4 pounds of plastic waste and 153.9 pounds of mixed waste, all of which was documented and prepared for transport to the 4ocean Java base.

Reflecting on the day, Daris Eka Setiawan shared his thoughts from the field. “As we picked up trash one piece at a time along the shoreline, we felt how much this beach truly needs our helping hands. We believe that togetherness brings hope and can help restore what has been damaged. We, the 4ocean Java team, will continue striving to make real contributions in protecting our coastlines from plastic waste.”

The cleanup proceeded smoothly, with no significant challenges encountered at this location. Favorable conditions allowed the team to work efficiently and focus fully on restoring the shoreline.

Today’s action served as a reminder that waste arriving on beaches is a sign of ongoing pressure on our oceans. Beaches are not just tourist destinations, but living environments that require care and responsibility. With support from partners like ID&C Band, the 4ocean Java team remains committed to taking early, consistent action to protect coastlines and ensure they remain healthy for future generations.
