Bago River Cleanup With Support From Wen-Parker Logistics

Dika, 4ocean Jembrana Content Correspondent

With support from Wen-Parker Logistics, the 4ocean Java River Team carried out another routine cleanup at the Bago River, a location known for its constant accumulation of waste from upstream communities. This section of the river requires frequent attention, with cleanups scheduled up to three times a week, as incoming trash continues to arrive with changing tides and river flow. Without regular intervention, waste quickly builds up and worsens environmental conditions along the riverbanks.

The team traveled to the site by land, arriving within ten minutes and immediately beginning work in the most heavily impacted areas. Equipped with sacks, gloves, and collection tools, the crew focused on removing waste that had settled into the sand and mixed with leaves along the river’s edge. If left untouched, this debris would continue to trap new waste and spread further during high tide.

After several hours of steady work, the team filled dozens of sacks with collected debris. All waste was sorted by type and placed in a designated area for weighing. Once documentation was complete, the sacks were manually transported to the main road, where a truck could access the site and carry the collected material back to the 4ocean Java base for processing.

By the end of the cleanup, the team had collected 30 sacks of waste weighing a total of 1,639.9 pounds. This included 460.8 pounds of plastic waste across 12 sacks and 1,179.1 pounds of mixed waste contained in 18 sacks. Removing this material helped reduce immediate environmental pressure on the river while slowing the cycle of recurring accumulation.

Crew member Bisma Wirayudha shared his appreciation for being part of the effort. “I am very grateful for this opportunity, and I would like to thank 4ocean for allowing me to be part of the 4ocean Java team’s mission. I will do my best and contribute to our cleanup efforts.”

Plastic pollution in rivers like the Bago River highlights a wider environmental issue affecting waterways across many communities. Waste carried downstream eventually reaches the ocean, threatening marine ecosystems and the livelihoods of fishermen and coastal residents. Through continued cleanups and support from partners such as Wen-Parker Logistics, the 4ocean Java River Team remains committed to reducing plastic pollution while promoting long-term awareness and collective responsibility for protecting Indonesia’s rivers and oceans.
