Big Ass Fans Supports Riverboom Team 4ocean Java Cleanup in Jatirejo Village

Dika, 4ocean Jembrana Content Correspondent

With support from our partner Big Ass Fans, the Riverboom Team of 4ocean Java carried out a routine but vital cleanup at the trash net installed along the main irrigation ditch in Jatirejo Village. This waterway connects Jatirejo, Jatisari, and Tegaldlimo Villages and plays an important role in surrounding rice fields and agricultural activity. Positioned strategically, the trash net captures floating waste before it can move farther downstream and eventually reach the ocean.

Before arriving at the site, Team Riverboom 1 prepared all necessary equipment under the direction of Captain Ari Surya Prayoga. Sacks, ropes, and personal protective equipment were checked and organized to ensure the operation could proceed safely and efficiently. Once on site, the crew immediately got to work, motivated by a shared commitment to restoring the ditch to a cleaner, healthier condition.

The cleanup focused on removing plastic and mixed debris trapped in the net. Working together, the team pulled out layers of waste and packed them into prepared sacks. Once collected, the waste was gathered at a designated area for weighing before being transported by truck to the 4ocean Java base for proper handling.

By the end of the cleanup, the Riverboom Team had collected 328.5 pounds of plastic waste, filling two large sacks. The recovered materials included plastic bags, plastic bottles, foam, food packaging, glass bottles, sandals, bags, and other discarded items. With the trash removed, the water flow through the ditch became visibly clearer, allowing the channel to better serve its purpose as an irrigation pathway for nearby farmland.

For crew member Yusuf Kurniawan Ramadan, the work carries meaning beyond the physical results.“I am always proud to be part of the effort to keep the water channels in Jatirejo Village clean,” he shared. “I hope that through this action, we can educate the community to take part in protecting waterways by not throwing waste into ditches or rivers.”

The cleanup was not without challenges. One of the most difficult aspects of the operation was encountering animal carcasses that had been deliberately disposed of in the waterway. Aside from creating a strong odor, this made the work more physically demanding and underscored the ongoing issue of improper waste disposal in the area.

Despite these obstacles, the Riverboom Team continued their work with focus and determination. The amount of waste collected serves as a clear reminder that pollution in local waterways remains a serious concern. Through continued action, supported by partners like Big Ass Fans, the 4ocean Java team uses trash nets as an effective tool to intercept pollution and protect both aquatic life and community resources.

By keeping waterways clean, these efforts help ensure that water remains safe for daily use, agriculture, and the surrounding ecosystem, while also preventing plastic waste from reaching the ocean.
