Restoring Ria Bomo Beach With Support From Natura Health Products
Dika, 4ocean Jembrana Content Correspondent
Ria Bomo Beach is a well-known coastal area in the Blimbingsari District, shaped by a wide river estuary that connects inland communities to the sea. During periods of heavy rain and flooding, this river carries large amounts of waste downstream, depositing it along the shoreline. With support from Natura Health Products, the 4ocean Java Beach Team carried out a focused cleanup to restore flood-affected areas and reduce the environmental damage caused by accumulated debris.
Upon arrival, the team found the shoreline heavily impacted by floodborne waste. Plastic and non-plastic debris had settled beneath layers of bamboo leaves and natural debris, making collection slower and more demanding. Equipped with sacks, cutters, and protective gear, the team moved steadily along the beach, carefully sorting waste as they worked to ensure materials could be properly processed later.
Despite the challenging conditions, the cleanup unfolded with strong teamwork and shared purpose. Crew members worked side by side, maintaining focus while supporting one another through physically demanding tasks. As the hours passed, visible progress began to take shape. Sections of the beach once buried under trash were gradually cleared, allowing the natural shoreline to reemerge. By the end of the operation, dozens of filled sacks were transported to the weighing area to document the team’s efforts.
In total, the team collected 36 sacks of waste weighing 1,603.9 pounds. This included 580.5 pounds of plastic waste across 20 sacks, 436.9 pounds of non-plastic waste in 6 sacks, and 586.5 pounds of mixed waste contained in 10 sacks. Removing this material helped reduce immediate environmental threats to marine and coastal ecosystems while restoring the beach to a cleaner and healthier condition.
Crew member Rakha Bahtiyan reflected on the impact of pollution at Ria Bomo Beach. “Environmental pollution has changed the face of Ria Bomo Beach from a place that should be beautiful to one littered with trash. What should be a paradise for marine life and a space for people to enjoy nature has become a serious threat to ecosystems. This problem requires consistent and concrete action so future generations can experience a cleaner and healthier environment.”
The team faced several challenges throughout the cleanup. Trash continued to arrive from upstream river flows, even as cleanup efforts were underway. Some debris was tightly entangled in branches and fishing nets, requiring extra time and careful use of cutters and metal hooks. Limited road access also meant that collected sacks had to be carried manually to a location where trucks could safely load them.
This cleanup reflects the ongoing commitment of the 4ocean Java Beach Team to protecting coastal environments affected by river-driven pollution. With support from partners like Natura Health Products, these efforts go beyond waste removal by demonstrating the importance of consistent action, community awareness, and shared responsibility. Through continued cleanups and education, the team hopes to inspire lasting change for Ria Bomo Beach and the ecosystems connected to it.
