Sodapop Supports 4ocean Java’s Irrigation Cleanup in Kedungasri Village

Dika, 4ocean Jembrana Content Correspondent

With support from Sodapop, the 4ocean Java Riverboom Team carried out an urgent cleanup today at the Kedungasri Village irrigation channel after receiving a report from the local water authority about a severe waste blockage. The buildup had begun to restrict water flow through the ditch, raising concerns for nearby agricultural areas that depend on consistent irrigation. Upon receiving the report, the team immediately traveled to the site to assess the situation and prevent further disruption to the water system.

After a 30 minute journey, the team arrived to find the ditch densely packed with mixed waste and mud, leaving little room for water to pass through. Recognizing the scale of the problem, the team captain made the call to request additional assistance from Riverboom Teams 2 and 3. Before beginning the cleanup, all crew members gathered for a short briefing and prepared their equipment, including sacks, metal claws, sickles, ropes, and personal protective gear. This preparation ensured that the team could work efficiently and safely in challenging conditions.

The cleanup required hours of coordinated effort. As the team worked through the dense waste layer, progress became visible little by little. Water that had previously been stagnant began to move again, signaling a gradual restoration of the channel’s function. Dozens of sacks were filled and transported to the designated collection area, where the waste was weighed and documented before being loaded onto the 4ocean Java truck and brought back to base for processing.

By the end of the operation, the team had collected a total of 28 sacks of waste weighing 1,457.1 pounds. This included 563.6 pounds of plastic waste across 15 sacks and 893.5 pounds of mixed waste contained in 13 sacks. The removal of this material significantly improved water flow through the ditch and reduced the risk of further blockage that could impact surrounding farmland.

From the field, Ach. Hasan Izzudin shared his appreciation for being able to assist the Kedungasri community. He expressed hope that the cleanup would provide real benefits, particularly for residents who rely on the irrigation channel to support agriculture and plantation work in the area.

The team faced notable challenges throughout the cleanup. Much of the waste was heavily mixed with mud, making it difficult to remove and requiring close coordination among crew members. Continuous rain added another layer of difficulty, creating slippery conditions that demanded extra care and patience. Despite this, the team remained focused and committed to fully clearing the channel.
