Vivreau Supports 4ocean Java’s Post-Flood Cleanup at Lampon Beach
Dika, 4ocean Jembrana Content Correspondent
Several days of heavy rain and strong winds battered Lampon Beach, overflowing the river mouth and flushing large amounts of plastic and bamboo debris onto the shoreline. When the 4ocean Java Beach Team arrived, supported by our partner Vivreau, whose commitment to ocean health powers this mission, they were met with another wave of rain and aggressive winds. The team waited out the weather in the early hours, watching the tide push more debris onto the already-stranded coastline.
But when the rain eased, the team jumped into action.
With visibility improving and winds still strong, the team pushed forward with urgency. They started at the river mouth, ground zero for incoming waste, and worked their way along the shoreline, lifting trash buried deep under layers of wet sand and organic debris.
Despite difficult working conditions, the team’s determination never wavered. The partnership with Vivreau ensured the crew had the resources and support needed to respond quickly to a crisis that had unfolded overnight.
“I am very happy to be part of the 4ocean Java beach team because it allows me to take part in clean-ups at various beaches. I can see firsthand how unpleasant it is when tourist beaches are filled with trash… We are committed to helping create clean, beautiful coastlines that people can enjoy.”, Darys Eka Setiawan, Beach Team 4ocean Java said.
Lampon Beach had received a heavy load of plastic pushed downstream from upstream communities during the recent storms, leaving the coastline buried in debris. Over the course of the cleanup, the team collected a total of 930.3 lbs of waste across 36 sacks, including 796.9 lbs of plastic (33 sacks) and 133.4 lbs of mixed waste (3 sacks). The most common items were beverage bottles, styrofoam, food wrappers, plastic bags, single-use containers, sandals, shoes, and glass bottles; clear signs of poor waste management practices upstream and the downstream consequences they create for coastal ecosystems.
The team faced strong winds capable of re-scattering trash across the beach, forcing everyone to work fast and efficiently. Much of the waste was buried beneath sand, requiring the crew to dig and shake off layers of sediment before bagging it. Transporting the accumulated sacks to a distant collection point was also physically demanding, but the team overcame this challenge through teamwork, carrying sacks one by one to the area accessible by truck.
The pollution at Lampon Beach is more than unsightly, it signals deeper issues with inadequate waste management and low environmental awareness in upstream areas. Plastic waste carried downriver eventually washes into the ocean, harming marine life, damaging ecosystems, and impacting human health. This event highlights how inland communities and coastal environments are connected.

Thanks to the support of Vivreau, today’s action strengthened our ongoing mission to restore coastlines, protect waterways, and create cleaner, healthier ecosystems for future generations.
