CLOSED-LOOP PROGRAM

We’re currently developing a circular end-of-life plan for every 4ocean product. Our aim is to eliminate waste at the end of our product lifecycle by taking back 4ocean products that our customers no longer use so they can be properly recycled or transformed into new products. Once you’re done with your 4ocean product, please reach out to our customer service team to receive a prepaid shipping label.

The 4ocean Closed-Loop Program is only available in the U.S. for now, but we plan to expand in the future.

OCEAN FACT

Polar bears are the first large marine mammal to be listed under the Endangered Species Act solely based on future predictions regarding the loss of their sea ice habitat.

PRODUCT STORY

The cost of our convenience is their disappearance

Polar bear on pack ice, Svalbard, Norway

Polar bear attempts to eat from discarded plastic jar, Manitoba, Canada

The only way to save polar bears and their sea ice habitats is to control temperature rise through greenhouse gas mitigation.

Dr. Steven C. Amstrup

Chief Scientist

Polar Bears International

The sea ice habitats polar bears need to survive are disappearing as the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere increases. Without sea ice, polar bears are unable to hunt for food, which is an enormous threat to their survival.

Plastic is among the most significant and rapidly growing sources of industrial greenhouse gas emissions, which are emitted during every stage of its lifecycle.

If we’re going to save polar bears, we must protect their sea ice habitats by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including those associated with plastic.

To save polar bears and the sea ice they rely on to survive, we donated $14,865 to both Polar Bears International and Carbonfund.org in 2018 and will donate another $5,000 to each of them at the end of 2019.

Our donations to Carbonfund.org will offset more than 4.3 million pounds of atmospheric carbon dioxide. Our donation to Polar Bears International will support a variety of polar bear conservation efforts including scientific research of polar bears in the Arctic, education for local residents on how to avoid attracting and coming into contact with polar bears, den monitoring, and ice ecology work.

Purchasing a 4ocean bracelet does more than clean the ocean. It also creates sustainable, living-wage jobs.

As soon as our beads, cords, and charms reach our main facility in Denpasar, Bali, a crew loads up our van and motorbikes to distribute these components to artisans in remote villages scattered across the island.

Women comprise 80 percent of this workforce. In Bali, women tend to assume the role of primary caretakers for their families, which means their job opportunities are limited. Because they’re able to hand assemble our bracelets in their homes and village centers, more women are able to join the workforce while continuing to care for their families.
